Bruns, Lacerations, Scars - Wolfe Lawyers Personal Injury Law

Permanent Injuries: Burns, Scars, Amputation

At Wolfe Lawyers we have taken on a number of cases where the client is unsure if their injury is worth a lawsuit, particularly when the initial injury has healed (as in the case with scars) or when the injury is serious such as amputation but it happened at home and not at work. We will listen to your story, ask about your current situation, and look at your insurance policy. It will cost you nothing to find out whether or not you have a case. However, neglecting to make a claim because you assume you don’t have one could prove costly.

Know Your Options

Burns and scalds are extremely painful injuries and often result in long-term repercussions for the victim. They can cause serious damage to nerves, tendons, ligaments and muscles, which can lead to psychological distress, scarring and physical disabilities.

By definition, amputation and scarring cases involve injuries that will no longer heal any more than they already have. This means that we don’t only look at the losses you suffered at the time of your injury and during your period of recovery, but the long-term effects on your life.

At your free consultation, we will look at:

  • Work Insurance: Many workplaces have policies that cover death, dismemberment and loss of the use of a body part. Many employees assume that their injuries must occur as a result of a pursuit of their duties or at the fault of someone else. Even if you were hurt at home because of a mistake you made, let us examine your particular policy.
  • Emotional Aftereffects: Disfigurement and amputation can often result in deep psychological wounds that take a long time to heal and can affect your day to day life. Depression and post-traumatic stress disorder are common.
  • Chronic Pain: It’s not unusual for amputees to suffer from chronic pain, especially if part of your body has to move differently to compensate for a missing limb. Pain, itching, discomfort and reduced mobility from scarring are also quite common.
  • Personal Circumstances: Appearance may have been an important part of your career or personal life – if, for example you were a sales representative. Your age may also have an impact on the quantification of your losses, as a young person will have to face a lifetime of dealing with an amputation or disfigurement.
  • Seriousness of the Injury: Losing the tip of your finger does not reap the same distress as losing a limb. Just as scarring on the back may have vastly different emotional impact than scarring across the face.
We represent clients who have suffered from burns, lacerations, scarring or amputation throughout Ontario. Call 310-WOLF or fill out our online form to see if you have a claim.
